Sajjad Haider Karim (Gujjar)has been invested with Pakistan's highest national honour for non nationals by the President of Pakistan for services to UK/EU/Pakistan relations. The Sitara-i-Qaid-i-Azam has previously been conferred upon Queen Elizabeth II and Nelson Mandela .Sajjad Karim is the only member of the European Parliament who is of Pakistani origin. Born on July 11, 1970 in Britain, he was elected to the European Parliament in June 2004 at the age of 34 as a liberal democrat representing North West England. He was re-elected in June 2009, and again in 2014.He is a voting member of the European Parliament’s Trade Committee.
